Turkey's dominant mobile network operator, Turkcell has been fined TRY36.1 million (US$23.8 million) by the country's Competition Commission for alleged anti-competitive behaviour. The fine stems from allegations that the operator created de facto exclusivity for companies seeking to sell mobile content and marketing services to its subscribers.
In a statement, Turkcell said that its "partners choose to cooperate with us of their own free will thanks to our popularity within the Turkish market, which is based on the value we create."
Our company does not create 'de facto exclusivity' as it is stated in the allegations. Furthermore, all of our applications are in line with the Competition Board's regulations.
The company confirmed that it will take necessary legal actions with regards to the fine that it believes lacks any legal basis.
