India's state-owned telco, BSNL says that it has covered 318 cities with its 3G network and is on target to reach 400 cities by the end of March. Coverage of all 760 major cities in the country is expected by September. BSNL launched its network in Chennai last February and now has a presence in all Zones other than in the Western Zone.
BSNL, and fellow state-owned telco, MTNL were granted their 3G licenses in advance of the formal, and oft-delayed 3G license auction that will introduce private competition into the market.
The telco added in a statement that it has signed up 856,000 subscribers to the new network.
