Indian 3G License Auction is Back On Again

The Indian 3G license auction is back on again - for the moment. A short statement from the government press office confirmed the new dates for the auction process with the formal notice inviting invitations due to go out tomorrow (Thur 25th Feb).

According to the new schedule, applications to participate in the auction have to be submitted by the 19th March and pre-qualification of bidders will take place on the 30th March.

A series of mock-auctions will take place on the 5th-6th April, and the auction itself will start on the 9th April.

The auctions have been delayed three times already, but persistant issues with the release of military occupied radio spectrum and a battle over the reserve prices for the licenses have dogged the process.

As per previous plans, a separate auction of WiMAX licenses will start two days after the 3G license auction is completed.
