India's Reliance Communications has reported a 21% drop in its fiscal third-quarter profits to INR11.1 billion (US$240 million), from INR14.1 billion a year ago. The drop came despite foreign exchange gains of IN4.1 billion in the quarter. Revenues dropped by 9% to INR53.1 billion.
Revenues from wireless services, which make up three-quarters of the group revenues were largely flat at 0.3% higher than a year ago, while ARPU fell 7.5% to INR149.
The mobile network operator added 7.68 million wireless customers in the quarter, ending the year with a total subscriber base of 93.8 million. The company calculates its market share at 18.1%.
The company was hit by an ongoing price war in the market, triggered by the launch of several new operators with well financed foreign backers.
