The London-based venture capital firm behind Skype has announced plans to invest $165m (£109m) in Europe-based start-ups.
Atomico was formed four years ago by Skype founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, and has helped leading Web 2.0 companies such as Kazaa.
The company refers to its second fund as Atomico Ventures II, and said that the investment will focus primarily on early-stage and high-growth technology companies.
Atomico is looking for start-ups with "outstanding management teams" which address large market opportunities and use transformational technologies.
"We are delighted to announce that we have completed the fundraising for Atomico Ventures II, which will be focused primarily on early-stage tech companies in Europe," said Zennström, now Atomico chief executive, in a statement.
"We will seek to invest in exceptional entrepreneurs who are building exceptional businesses. We will target companies that we believe have the potential to generate significant growth, transform their industries and deliver strong returns."
The new fund is significant because there has generally been a tendency since the recession hit for venture capitalists to fund less risky later-stage start-ups.
