I write the first draft of my blogs in Microsoft Word. Often while writing a blog I need to copy a piece of text from a webpage. Since it is from a website, this copied text can contain all types of formatting such as different font styles, symbols, and hyperlinks. I cannot copy the simple text directly from the webpage; if I copy the text and paste it in Word, it appears as is (with the formatting). So I employ the slightly longer route – I first copy the text to clipboard, then paste it into Notepad (where there are no formatting options available thus only simple text is pasted), then copy it from Notepad and then paste it into Word.
Finally I found a way around this long procedure and thought it best to share it with all of you. This way around is called Copy Without Formatting.
Copy Without Formatting is nifty browser extension for Google Chrome. The developer has outlined the same Notepad procedure for obtaining simple text from a webpage. Perhaps it was what inspired him/her to create the extension in the first place.
After installing the extension you will not see any extra icons in the address bar. But there were be a number of added text-copying features previously unavailable. These features include the ability to copy the simple text off a given text on a webpage. We can perform this task in 3 ways:
1. Use your keyboard: press a customizable keyboard shortcut (default to Ctrl+Shift+C).
2. Use your mouse: click on a floating button which will appear after you select something in Chrome.
3. Auto-Copy (off by default): the selected text will be automatically copied to clipboard (unformatted) as soon as you release your mouse and finish the selection.
Copy Without Formatting will surely benefit many bloggers and researchers. I thank the developer of this extension for saving the time it took to simple text.
