KYE denies mistreatment at Microsoft-OEM factory

Taiwan-based PC accessory maker KYE Systems, which is also an OEM manufacturer of Microsoft products, has refuted a recently published report by the US National Labor Committee (NLC) that it has been mistreating its employees as well as hiring workers that are aged 16 or younger.

KYE commented that the NLC made its report based on the claims of just a few employees and did not verify any facts with KYE before publication.

KYE said it has a very strict policy to check each employee's identification and verify their eligibility for work, and stated that it has never hired underage workers.

As for NLC's claim that the company demands its employees work overtime, KYE responded that it follows the standards of China's Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) and does not allow its workers to work over 60 hours per week. Although the company has asked employees to work overtime during peak seasons, their working hours per day have never surpassed 12 hours, KYE pointed out.

As for workers' living environment, KYE said it has been improving its employee dormitories, and highlighted that the number of employees living in each room dropped from 14 in 2007, to 10 in 2009.

KYE also noted that it has channels in place for employees to report mistreatment, but said it has not received any complaints of sexual discrimination, sexual harassment, or improper punishment from its workers.
