"The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy" from Warner Bros, headlines the latest titles arriving on the Blu-ray high definition format.
Blu-ray didn't exist when J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the Trilogy and eventually got it into the hands of Richard Taylor, co-founder and co-director of Weta, which did the special effects for the three films who then credits director Peter Jackson for making it all happen. It took a special team to create such magic and now thanks to Blu-ray, that magic will be even more
"When we started, the technology didn't even exist to pull off some of the things we wanted to do," Taylor said, "but Peter had the foresight to realize that the technology would eventually be there."
Jackson, Taylor and co began working on the trilogy 4 years prior to the release of the first film in 2001.
"It was a huge and daunting task but also exhilarating," Taylor said. "It never got to the point where I felt discouraged or wondered if it was worth it. We knew Peter was going to see it through. Now I'm excited about being able to showcase the films in the Blu-ray format. We haven't gotten them here (in New Zealand) yet and I'm anxious to see what they look like."
Our guess is that as great as the films were on DVD, Blu-ray will blow you away. Each film comes with a bonus disc filled with extra scenes. The set includes "The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001), "The Two Towers" (2002) and "The Return of the King" (2003).
