Wistron chairman expects only 50% of revenues to come from notebooks in 2011

Wistron chairman Simon Lin expects the company's revenue proportion from the notebook segment to drop to 50% in 2011, down from the company's estimated 65% for 2010, and enabling Wistron to maintain stable profits as the company will be less affected by price competition in the notebook market.

Lin estimated that the combined revenue proportion from LCD TVs/monitors and desktops will reach 35-40% in 2011; handheld devices 5-6%; and IT services and servers combined at about 5%. However, the company will continue to focus heavily in the notebook industry, Lin added.

Lin also estimated that Japan's LCD TV brands will outsource 50% of their production to outside OEMs/ODMs in 2011 and Wistron's LCD TV shipments in 2011 will have a chance to see doubled growth on year, up from 5-6 million units in 2010

For 3D technology, Lin pointed out that the company's 3D notebook and monitor shipments have already reached its expectations. Lin also believes LCD TVs will be the strongest application for 3D in terms of shipment scale.

As for the expected recovery of the enterprise PC market, Lin noted that Wistron currently has about 30-40% of its notebook production enterprise-based and most of its all-in-one PCs and handheld devices are for the commercial market. Although demand from the enterprise market is gradually recovering in the second quarter, market visibility after the third quarter is still unclear.

Wistron on April 23, announced a net profit of NT$2.71 billion (US$86.55 million) for the first quarter of 2010 with an EPS of NT$1.45. The board of directors has approved several investments for businesses such as environmental components as well as cloud computing technologies.
