GetJar looks for best multi-platform apps

Apple’s App Store isn’t the only hot app game in town, as GetJar is steadily gaining traction with its independent, multi-platform approach. Now, GetJar is looking to kick things up a notch and its launching a contest looking for the best mobile programs.

The “Gettie Awards” will be held July 12 in conjunction with the MobileBeat conference and it will be rolling out seven awards to the best Android, BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM), Symbian, Java, Windows Mobile, iPhone apps. There will also be an award for the best overall app and the programs will be judged by a good panel of tech luminaries.

“We are thrilled to honor the best and brightest application developers with The Gettie Awards this year,” said Ilja Laurs, CEO of GetJar, in a prepared statement. “We feel it is important to recognize the developer community’s achievements across all major platforms to really appreciate the amazing content that is responsible for today’s vibrant app economy.”

Each category winner will get $15,000 and $25,000 will go to the top overall app. If you’re a developer looking for some love, exposure and cash, you can check out the submission guidelines here.
