McAfee brings its anti-malware solution to the Android platform

And we thought Android smartphones are perfectly safe? Let me assure you one thing – they are! McAfee for some reason thinks the opposite is true, hence they’re launching a dedicated mobile security solution for Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s mobile platform.

Initially, the company is bringing its McAfee VirusScan Mobile to the SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) subscribers in South Korea, where interested users can grab the mobile app from SK’s app store (TStore) free of charge.

Here’s how it works (from the press release):

Once installed, McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology protects SK Telecom’s mobile devices from malware, secures personal information and helps ensure critical communication functions work while users are on the go. Featuring automatic protection updates the technology secures the mobile device as soon as new threats are found. Using real-time scanning it protects users from both known and suspicious Android-based malware.

McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology is available now for the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) XT720, which is the first Android device available in Korea, and will soon be available for other phones.

Finally, in addition to Android smartphones, McAfee and SK Telecom offer the same product for Windows Mobile users.
