New plants in Vietnam and China to raise Compal monthly notebook capacity to 7 million by 3Q10

Compal Electronics expects to have a monthly capacity of seven million notebooks by the end of the third quarter of 2010 once its fifth production plant in Kunshan, China and the plant in Vietnam come online, according to the company.

Compal's current notebook capacity is 4.8-5 million units per month. The fifth plant in Kunshan is expected to have capacity for 1-1.2 million notebooks and the Vietnam plant one million units. Both plants are scheduled to come online by the end of the third quarter bringing Compal's total capacity to seven million units.

The company expects to ship more than 12.5 million notebooks in first-quarter 2010 with the second quarter to stay flat sequentially. The company also pointed out that the labor shortages reported in China will not affect its shipments goal for the first half of 2010 as it recently adjusted its employee benefits which helped retain enough workers to maintain output.
