Nokia Dominates Handset Parallel Trading Market

The Nokia N95 maintained its dominance of the cellular parallel trading market for a second year in a row, reports RCS, with Nokia placed six models in the top ten, compared to seven of the top ten in 2008. Two of RIM's Blackberry Smartphones were new additions to the annual 2009 rankings, Bold 9000 (4th) and Javelin (6th).

Apple introduced the iPhone 3G in Q3 of 2009 but was noticeably absent in the annual rankings, compared to placing 2nd in 2008 (though the non-3G model). Rounding out the 2009 list was the HTC Hero in ninth place and the SonyEricson's W910i in tenth place.

"The 2009 trading year demonstrated that in spite of the lower production levels by cellular manufacturers, demand for Smartphones remained strong on the global parallel market, and RCS was again able to quickly fill voids in demands left by the manufacturers," said RCS President Rami Feller. "In looking to the year ahead, RCS will launch an upgraded and more user-friendly trading platform that we anticipate will further strengthen RCS' leading market share in the global cellular trading market."
