Samsung and Panasonic will soon be getting some competition in the 3D HDTV market from LG, which recently announced the availability of its LX9500 line in its native Korea. The 47-inch and 55-inch sets will start selling in the United States in May.
The LX9500 TVs are LED-backlit LCDs, and LG claims a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. Of course, whether that spec and its 480Hz refresh rate (a.k.a. TruMotion 400Hz) will result in superior image quality to the competition is yet to be seen. TruMotion should help 3D viewing, as the active shutter glasses LG uses sync with the set’s refresh rate. From a design standpoint, LG seems to be pushing the limits of bezel width, with the LX9500 line sporting bezels that are only 16mm, or 0.6 inches, wide.
You’ll be paying a pretty price for those pretty looks, though, if the pricing Reuters is reporting for Korea will be similar in the States. The 47-inch version is going to cost 4.7 million won, which converts to $4,134 in U.S. dollars and is far pricier than the other 3D sets on the market. In comparison, Samsung’s 55-inch 3D HDTV is selling for under $3,000 at Best Buy.
