Operator News in Brief - 28th Mar 2010

Costa Rica's Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) is planning to finally shut-down its older TDMA based phone network by the end of this year, and has asked the remaining users to switch over to its GSM or 3G networks as soon as possible.

Vodafone UK has started taking pre-orders for the Sony Ericsson X10 - an Android based smartphone - and plans to start selling it later this week.

Newish New Zealand network, 2Degrees is slashing the cost of sms and voice calls on its network from later this week. The new rates will be applied to PrePay subscribers after they make their next top-up.

Etisalat Afghanistan announced that it has reached three million subscribers, garnering 24% market share in 27 provinces. Etisalat signed an agreement with Afghan authorities in May 2006 to operate a GSM network across Afghanistan and became the fourth GSM operator in the country.
