What the iPhone 3G Wont Get with iPhone OS 4

While many people have been disappointed and talking about the fact that original iPhone wont have access to the iPhone OS 4 update when its released this summer, not as many people have been talking about what the iPhone 3G wont get with the update.

At the iPhone OS 4 developer’s preview event we learned that the iPhone 3G would not be able to run the new, and highly requested, multitasking feature. While there seems to be a way to enable the feature on jailbroken 3G devices, we are now starting to learn that there are many other aspects of iPhone OS 4 that the 3G will not have access to upon its release.

No MultiTasking
We already knew this one, but it is definitely a big hit to iPhone 3G users, as multitasking is definitely the most anticipated “tent pole” feature announced at the iPhone OS 4 preview event.

No Camera App Zoom

The iPhone 3G already doesn’t have some of the features introduced with the camera app on the 3GS including autofocus, video capture, as well as the fact that the camera is only 2 megapixels. The 3G’s camera app will yet again be left behind with iPhone OS 4 and not have access to the new zoom features.

No Wallpapers

Another highly requested feature that was introduced at the developer’s preview was custom wallpapers. This was seems a little strange as jailbroken 3G devices don’t seem to have a problem running wallpapers.

There doesn’t seem to be much 3G users will be able to do apart from waiting for any jailbroken hacks that will allow these features to be enabled. What do you think about Apple’s decision to limit the features of iPhone OS 4 for 3G owners?
