Lets face it; the chances are the iPad will not include a camera in the first generation of its release. If anything, there may be a slew of third party peripheral USB based camera devices released in the months following the official release of the iPad. However, that hasn’t stopped everyone for looking for more clues in the latest release of the iPhone/iPad SDK beta. You also have to admit that with a space for a camera found in the iPad’s enclosure and a ton of evidence for camera and video features in the SDK, its pretty evident there is some type of video/camera feature hitting an iPhone OS enabled device in the near future. However, with the SDK for iPhone and iPad being one in the same, its impossible to tell if the clues below reported by MacRumors are signs of things to come for the iPad or a future generation of iPhone, or possibly iPod Touch.
MacRumors Reports:It seems Apple built in API support to test to see if your iPad had a Front Facing Camera, Zoom and a Camera Flash. The front facing camera would, of course, be used for video chat, while Zoom and Camera Flash are often requested features for the iPhone’s camera. Here is a photo from the Beta 3 iPad/iPhone SDK showing icons obviously for accepting and deciling a video chat:
