LCD driver IC maker Novatek Microelectronics expects its revenues to increase 10-15% sequentially in the second quarter of 2010 from the first quarter's NT$8.688 billion (US$277.22 million), while gross margin is likely to stay flat at around 27.23%, according to company president Steve Wang.
The first-quarter gross margin of 27.23% represented a decline of 2.07 percentage points from the 29.3% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2009 due to rising packaging and testing costs, Wang noted.
The company also reported net profits of NT$1.198 billion, or NT$2.10 per share, for the first quarter.
Demand for large-size LCD driver ICs from the flat panel sector will remain strong through the second quarter, while shipments of driver ICs for handset applications are expected to grow over 10% sequentially during the same period, Wang stated.
