There has been a lot of controversy recently over the prices set by publishers and developers for downloadable content. Perhaps the most recent example of this is the $15 price tag that accompanies the first DLC for Modern Warfare 2 titled “The Stimulus Package”. The pricing of the DLC made many wonder whether or not this would be the first of many high priced DLC offerings from AAA titles in the future. This is why it was quite pleasing to hear Ubisoft announce today that Splinter Cell: Conviction would be receiving what they called a ”ton of free content” in the form of weekly DLC goodies.
The entirely free DLC content will have its first release tomorrow with an MP7A1 Machine Pistol and will continue with a new release every Thursday. Each week will feature a different offering including maps, skins, and weapons. Of course the best part of the offering is the fact that all Xbox 360 owners with an internet connection will have access to the content via the title’s Extras section within the main menu of the game.
