Twitter for BlackBerry Beta is Live!

Alright, alright, all y’all who have been insanely jealous of us who have got to play with the official Twitter for BlackBerry beta will be able to get in on the fun as of tonight at 9 PM EST. All of the features that squeaked out in that leaked version will be there, including lists support, profile editing, larger user avatars, @ mention notifications in the Messages app, and cached data handling.

The initial closed beta launched with quite a few neat tricks, like a direct message bubble that would creep up and use only a portion of the Messages screen, and simply fade the background. There’s still a few things to add, like geo-locating your own tweets (although searching for other location-based tweets is in there), address book integration, and, most notably, multiple account support. Still, opening up the beta to the public will enable RIM to stress test the push demands of Twitter on their servers and make sure everything is hunky-dory for the release proper.

For those hankering to get started, the app will be available from the BlackBerry Beta Zone and App World Test Center tonight.
Update: Hey, looks like it went up a bit early! Go ahead and download from this link on your BlackBerry. Also, Wind Mobile here in Canada is pushing out the beta automatically to all of their Infinite BlackBerry customers rocking a 9700 Bold. Anyone on a Social BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) plan will be getting it automatically in a few weeks.
