Starcraft, released in 1998, has been one of the most successful games ever released. It has been hailed by game players and critics alike for being a great strategy game. Now, 12 years later, Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is being released and Blizzard just recently announced the exact release date – July 27th.
Closed beta testing of Startcraft had already begun in February. The beta program was about 1.6GB in size and was available at Battle.net.
Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment (the creators of Starcraft), had this to say to about Starcraft 2: “We’ve been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we’re excited that the time for that is almost here. Thanks to our beta testers, we’re making great progress on the final stages of development, and we’ll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net in just a few months.”
A July release date will ensure that enough time is given to testing and ironing out any defects in the game.
Starcraft 2 will be sporting a vibrant new 3D graphics engine and revolve around the battles between protoss, terrans, and zerg; each side will be able to deploy armies of veteran, upgraded, and brand new unit types.
Soon after the July 27th launch date for retail stores, the game will be available from Blizzard’s download service.
