Jordan Consults on LTE Licensing Details

The Jordanian telecoms regulator, the TRC says that it will shortly invite comments from the country's four mobile network operators regarding future LTE licenses. The TRC's Chief Commissioner Fadi Kawar said at a press conference that the commission has adopted a document specifying the standards and conditions for obtaining LTS licences.

In order to be eligible to introduce the LTE services, a mobile operator needs a minimum of 20Megahertz spectrum, the TRC chief indicated.

Although the regulator is moving towards LTE deployment, so far, only Orange Jordan has a 3G license, although in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times, Zain confirmed that it is interested in introducing LTE services.

The TRC chief stressed that the introduction of LTE services does not violate Orange's status as exclusive provider of 3G services, a distinction the firm will hold until March 2011.
