LG has just gotten official with the upcoming release of the slide-out, 3G-ready Fathom smartphone, set to be released on Verizon Wireless.
The LG Fathom is targeted towards an “on-the-go” crowd, given some of its notable global capabilities. It’s ready to be taken around the world with programmed smart calling to numbers in 220 nations, accessing data in at least 200, and the availability of turn-by-turn directions and maps in 20 countries. Finally, the Fathom is prepared to automatically adjust the roaming frequency from CDMA/EVDO to GSM/UMTS, depending on the user’s geographic location.
And if you’re someone who really is on the move, take note of the one-touch speaker phone and voice command support. The LG Phantom supports voice-activated dialing for up to 4,000 entries. (Does anyone have that many contacts in their mobile phonebooks?)
Running on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and powered by a 1GHz processor, the Fathom is a bit of a milestone for LG. Here’s a rundown of what else is included with the LG Fathom:
* 3.2-inch touchscreen display
* 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
* Bluetooth v2.1
* microSD slot (up to 16GB)
* Built-in MP3 and WMA music player
* Full slide-out QWERTY keyboard
* 3.2-megapixel AF camera/camcorder
The LG Fathom will become available for pre-order on May 27, and it is set to ship by June 3. Pricing starts at $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year contract.
