LG has decided to to come out with a passive 3D TV because consumers have been asking for one. LG's LD950 is a 47-inch LCD TV with passive 3D tech that means its glasses are cheaper than the active-shutter versions. There are both active and passive types of 3D. The passive 3D screens allow consumers to purchase much cheaper glasses although they won't necessarily receive Full HD 1080 3D image. Other positives however do include, more comfortable glasses and they are less dangerous for people with photo-sensitive epilepsy.
With four HDMI 1.4 sockets, there's DivX HD playback via the USB sockets, and an incredible menu system. The TV's 200Hz model should help reduce double images from slow refresh rates.
2D can still be presented in 1080p and if your interested in the active 3D models, the LED backlit LX9900 and the edgelit LX6900 are available. Both work with the shuttered 3D glasses and will beam a 1080p 3D picture, it will definitely cost you.
LG hasn't released pricing for the LD950, but we can expect it to cost between £1,800 and £2,500. The screen is expected out in May.
